Project-Based Voucher Projects:
Burnham Arms, Senior Housing (62 plus, disabled or handicapped)
This is a sixty-five-unit elevator high-rise building built in 1906 located downtown close to the Arts district at 633 Congress Street. There are 45 one bedroom subsidized apartments. Amenities include high ceilings, large windows, all hardwood floors, laundry, on-site management, community room and limited parking. Applicants must be willing to enter a one year lease. NO DOGS ALLOWED.
Brannigan House is located at 90 High Street; there are 8 efficiency apartments and a one-bedroom apartment that are subsidized. Preference is given for this supported Housing Program to individuals experiencing a mental illness, which impairs their ability to live independently. Applicants must have the minimal skills needed to maintain an apartment and themselves in the community but still require support to maintain their basic skills and functioning. The Brannigan House staff offers medication supervision, counseling services, and basic skill building for independent living.
EMC Affordable Housing property located at 1390 Forest Avenue is a 44 unit two-bedroom property of which 11 are subsidized. They offer a resident services coordinator to work with the residents on an individual basis to identify their needs and interests. They will refer residents to outside services that can meet their needs, such as; house keeping, transportation, childcare, meals and delivery services.
India Street (My Choice)
Located at 107 India Street has two one-bedroom units and two two-bedroom units. India Street provides safe and affordable housing and supportive services for low-income pregnant/parenting women and their children. Residents are offered case management; help with daily living skills, referrals and support. Priority is given to homeless women residing in the My Choice shelter.
Located at 41 State Street, Portland is a 27 unit mixed income property managed by Dirigo Management Company. There are four 2-BR and two 1-BR apartments under this project-based contract. Applicants will be screened for landlord references; neighbor references, credit checks, criminal background checks and a home interview will be conducted.
Located at 31 Old Campus Drive is a 30-unit property managed by Apex Management LLC. There are three 2-BR and four 3-BR apartments under this project-based contract. The property offers a community room, computer room, on site parking, locked storage and an on site laundry for use of the residents. The location of this property provides convenient access to public transportation. Yale court gives preference to applicants who are homeless, disabled or have other special needs.
Croquet Lane Apartments, located at 31-50 Croquet Lane, has 10 one-bedroom apartments owned and managed by Shalom House, Inc. This Portland apartment complex is set in a private wooded area with adequate off-street parking and a community building equipped with laundry facilities. In this combined supported/independent housing program, preference is given to homeless individuals living with a major life altering mental illness, which impairs their ability to live independently. Applicants should either have the ability to live independently or have the minimal skills needed to maintain an apartment and themselves in the community. Tenants who require support will receive help in maintaining their residency and facilitate community integration. To those tenants, the Croquet Lane staff offers case management, medication supervision, mental health services, personal care and coordination with community service providers.
28 and 28 ½ Holly Street
This property is a duplex with a 3-bedroom and 4-bedroom, townhouse style apartments. Community Housing of Maine works with Portland Social Services to meet the needs of homeless refugee families. The Portland Social Services staff will work with the family to acclimate to the community and find educational and employment opportunities. Logan Place and Florence House
Logan Place, located at 53 Frederic Street, and Florence House, located at 190 Valley Street, have 55 efficiency apartments managed by Avesta Housing. Housing and supportive services for individuals who are chronically homeless and disabled are provided. This property offers several areas of community space, on site laundry, and convenient access to public transportation. Preble Street provides 24-hour support services to monitor the stability of residents, provide crisis intervention and conflict management as needed, and to assist residents in developing and enhancing life skills necessary to succeed in permanent housing. Strive, located at 7-12 Nye Street is a 7-unit property managed by STRIVE. There are seven 2-BR apartments under this project-based contract. This program is specifically designed and preference is given to developmentally disabled persons to learn life skills for independent living. CHOM/CASA is a group home with six single room occupancy units and shared common areas that include three bathrooms, one kitchen and two living rooms. Community Housing of Maine works with CASA, Inc. to provide permanent supportive housing. CASA has trained staff available on site to provide supportive services for the residents around the clock. CASA, Inc. will assess the applicants and refer suitable applicants to Portland Housing Authority.
