Our programs are designed to meet compelling, immediate needs in ways that demonstrate the commitment to gemilut chasadim (acts of loving kindness) in the service of tikkun olam (repairing the world).
Our Essentials pantry provides items from toilet paper to Tylenol, toothpaste to laundry detergent, for families who have had difficulty accessing these items due to cost (which is increasing all the time with inflation) and sourcing challenges. Since January of 2020, we’ve distributed over 1.5 million diapers throughout Southern Maine!
The dental hygiene clinic on the UNE Portland Campus offers services to the public, functioning as both a community and teaching resource. UNE students gain practical experience working in the 20-chair clinic, while the public enjoys a variety of dental hygiene services at a greatly reduced cost.
In Addition to providing free, healthy snacks for youth, Wayside Food Programs delivers fresh produce, meat, dairy, bread, and nonperishable items every month into four Portland Housing Authority sites. Each household receives ingredients to make at least 12 meals per person. The groceries enable individuals and families to prepare their own meals and support families working together to improve eating habits.? Each month, 575 Portland Housing Authority neighborhood residents participate. Mobile Food Pantries are collaborations between Wayside, Portland Housing Authority, and Portland Community Policing.
