Three Housing Scholarships available now on the PHA website

If you live in a PHA neighborhood or building, or your family has a housing voucher with PHA, you may be eligible for these scholarships to help pay for college or training programs.

Thomas Valleau Scholarship

(Formerly know as the PHA Scholarship)

Applications are due May 15th each year. Awards up to $5,000.
- Just for Portland Housing residents and voucher participants of any age who are headed to higher education in the fall, so you have a good chance to get a scholarship.
- Paid directly to the student so it doesn’t effect financial aid.
- Application, Essay, transcripts, recommendations, and financial information are required to apply.

NERC/NAHRO Allan R. Andrews Scholarship

Applications are due May 5th, 2025.
You must send your complete application to PHA at least 2 weeks before the listed due date to be considered.
- Application must be signed by the Executive Director of PHA and have a letter of recommendation from him. PHA can only send 5 applications.
No scholarship will be less than $1,000.
- New England based, open to any age or degree level.
- Paid directly to the student so it doesn’t effect financial aid.
- Similar to the PHA scholarship in information needed to apply.

Housing Authority Insurance Group Resident Scholarship Program

Applications are due Friday May 30th, 2025. Twenty $6,000 scholarships will be awarded.
- Very simple application. National program so a lot of people apply. Winners chosen at random.
